Apartments v Hotels – A Difficult Decision Made Easier

by Aisha Farndon on 03/04/2014

If you are reading this then chances are you haven’t yet booked your stag or hen accommodation in Manchester. We currently have two special offers running – one for 3* hotels and one for 4* apartments for May, June and July dates. However, it can be hard to know what’s best for your group.

As part of a two part series, we’ll be setting out in this blog the pros and cons of hotels versus apartments.  Next week we touch on when to book by to avoid being left with no city centre options and other pitfalls to avoid.

So to make sure you’re not labelled the worst best man or chief bridesmaid since stag and hen parties turned into fun weekend away affairs, we’ve put together a handy check-list for you so you can see what best suits your group.

4* luxury apartments?                                                                        Or 3* B&B hotel?

  Apartments Hotels
A few cheeky drinks before you head out The large living areas make them perfect for large groups getting together and so ideal for stag and hen accommodation in Manchester. It’s still possible to sit on beds and stand around in someone’s hotel room but it’s a little bit cramped and uncomfortable!
Saving money On some weekends city centre apartments can be only marginally more expensive than our lowest priced 3* hotel option and more affordable than many 3* hotel options.Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be eaten in the apartment. Many people (particularly hen groups) have a quiet night in with drinks on the first night to save on costs. Our lowest priced 3* hotel options are usually more affordable on the majority of weekends on a board only basis. You have to factor in breakfast, lunch and dinner costs of eating out.
Sharing beds Almost all apartment complexes and apart-hotels make use of single, double and zip-king beds, meaning there is usually a requirement for at least some to share double beds. Not always a popular option for stag accommodation in Manchester! If you book far enough in advance then most hotels offer twin rooms as standard, so no sharing is required.
Availability Apartments book up quickly but are normally less affected by big events like football matches and gigs because they attract smaller groups not always looking for apartments. Hotel availability will often reduce dramatically as soon a big scale event is announced and they are more likely to increase their prices considerably.
Finish All apartment complexes we work with are finished to a 4* standard. You will find a wide variety of options – from the ultra modern to the charming features mixed with modern touches. However, if you want the slick minimalist look then apartments are the best bet. Our 4* hotels include a variety of options – from the ultra plush to modern mixed with period features. Our 3* hotels do what they say on the tin – they provide a quality and comfortable stay but the finish may not have the “wow factor”.
Group size changes Apartment room rates are based on full occupancy. Therefore, if someone drops out, then you could all have to share the cost of any unoccupied spaces if different room combinations are not available. If your group size increases apartments can sometimes add in extra beds to accommodate this. As most hotels are based on two sharing then if someone drops out then normally you would only have to cover the cost of one unoccupied space.
Activities Certain activities, like pamper parties, Butlers in the Buff or Butlerettes can only be held in apartments as they require space. The reverse – hotels can’t host certain activities like pamper parties, Butlers in the Buff or Butlerettes.

We hope our guide has been helpful but we are always here to help with any queries you have regarding stag or hen accommodation in Manchester – or anything else to do with your weekend.
