How hard is it to throw a cheesy 80s themed hen party or 80s stag do?
This is probably the most important aspect of an 80s party. You need to get the right music playing at your party otherwise it just wouldn’t work. The easiest way of course is to just use Spotify and select an 80s playlist that is already perfectly curated. You would probably find sounds from the likes of Spandau Ballet, Kylie Minogue, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Men at Work, Survivor and Phil Collins playing on your…..boom box, of course.
All you need is a little googling and you will find yourself with various fashion inspirations from the 80s. Think shoulder pads, oversized jackets and powersuits. Don’t forget the hightops and headbands too if you’re going for a more casual look. Besides the fashion, make sure your makeup and your hair look the part too. And you most certainly have to over-accessorise your look with costume jewelleries, sunglasses, scarves, hair clips and wrist bands. If it doesn’t look garish, it isn’t the 80s.
Food and snacks
Serve nostalgic food from the 80s such as prawn cocktails, beef wellington, peanut-butter and jam sandwiches, devilled eggs, trifle and cheese fondue. As for snacks, scope your neighbourhood vintage candy shop for gems like Aero, After Eights, Arctic Rolls, Walker Crisps, Cadbury Crème Eggs and many more.
Games, toys and activities
Time to go back to mum’s and dig out some of your old toys. Think Cabbage Patch Dolls, Rubik’s Cube, Care Bears, GI Joe figurines, your old skateboard, Frisbees and Transformers of course. These 80s toys are great as decorations for the party. As for activities, bust out the old Atari or host your very own version of Wheel of Fortune. You can even take it up a notch by hosting your party at a roller skating club. Of course, don’t forget all the classic hen or stag party games while you’re at it.
Remember your favourite movies from the 80s? We’re talking about iconic films like Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Ghostbusters, ET, Top Gun, The Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing and many more. Well, make references to these 80s films with inspired movie paraphernalia (ie: cardboard Delorian from Back to the Future, jumpsuits from Ghostbusters, etc), posters or even just simple printouts of memorable movie quotes (“When you grow up, your heart dies” – from The Breakfast Club). These throwbacks will definitely take your party guests straight back into the wonderful 80s.
Have a merry time throwing the best 80s themed party!
